Principal’s Report
Quorn Area School has an established culture of placing learners at the heart of its decision-making processes. This approach fully aligns with South Australia's education direction, and the successes we have secured over recent years means we are well-positioned to use the department's strategy to ensure improved outcomes for our learners and the wider community. You can explore the strategy by following the link below:
Our location and diverse community mean that we embody an inclusive school, which presents a wealth of opportunities for our learners and the community to grow together.
Inclusion is not just a word; it's a powerful principle that shapes how we learn, grow, and thrive together. At Quorn Area School, every learner deserves to feel valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential. Here's why inclusion is at the heart of everything we do.
What is Inclusion?
Inclusion means creating a learning environment where everyone has equal opportunities to succeed regardless of their background, abilities, or circumstances. It's about removing barriers, celebrating differences, and ensuring everyone feels they belong.
What Inclusion Looks Like at Quorn Area School
At our school, we embrace inclusion in many ways:
- Supportive Learning Strategies: Tailored teaching methods to meet diverse needs.
- Celebrating Diversity: Events and activities honouring different cultures, traditions, and abilities.
- Accessible Resources: Ensuring that physical spaces, technology, and materials are available to all.
- Learner Voice: Empowering learners to share their experiences and ideas to create a welcoming environment.
How You Can Support Inclusion
Inclusion isn't just the responsibility of schools—it's a shared effort. Here are some ways caregivers, learners, and the wider community can contribute:
- Encourage Empathy: Talk with your child about the importance of kindness and understanding.
- Celebrate Differences: Share stories, books, or activities that highlight diversity.
- Get Involved: Participate in school events or volunteer in activities that promote inclusion.
Together, We Create a Better Future
At Quorn Area School, we are committed to maintaining and growing a culture where everyone belongs. By embracing inclusion, we empower learners to succeed in academics and life. Let's continue working together to celebrate what makes us unique and strengthen our bonds.
"Inclusion is not about bringing people into what already exists; it is about making a new space, a better space for everyone." – George De

Week of Inspirational Maths
Last week, we celebrated ‘Week of Inspirational Maths’.
Learners across the school engaged in various inquiry tasks designed to challenge their thinking, work collaboratively to solve problems and find enjoyment in maths. On Thursday afternoon, the Primary school embraced student agency, allowing learners to choose activities that intrigued them. This approach was highly successful, with learners embracing the challenge and engaging enthusiastically.
Here are some photos from the ‘Keep, Flip, Turn’, Spiro Laterals, Shape Origami, and Pattern tasks.
Primary Performance
On the 23rd of October, the learners were treated to a performance called ‘The Way Things Were’.
The one-person performance took us on an interesting journey back through time, showing how things were done in the past. It was a partially interactive experience where learners were chosen to be customers at an old-time store, performers on an old-style television, and much more. His crocodile puppet friend added humour, thoroughly entertaining the learners.
This performance is an example of alternative ways to learn, and we strive to provide a mix of entertaining and educational performances throughout the year.
Remembrance Day
They shall not grow old…
On the 11th day of the 11th month, our school gathered at the town war memorial to pay our respects. The Town Mayor, Ken Anderson, read the ode and paid tribute to past and present military personnel who have fought or are fighting to protect people, cultures, and countries.
It was lovely to be part of the town tribute rather than having a separate tribute at school. As the 11th hour struck, we observed a minute of silence. After the Reveille was played, we strolled through the static displays at the memorial before walking back to school.
Instrumental Music
Our Instrumental Music learners recently attended the Sound of the Flinders Ranges Music Workshop and performance in Booleroo. Peers from many other schools in the region and members of the Adelaide Youth Orchestra joined them. The morning session was centred around practising music learnt over the course of the year in a large band setting and mentored by the AYO. After lunch, learners put on a wonderful concert for families.
We want to thank Kate Mawson for her hard work and dedication to delivering high-quality music instructions and allowing our learners to connect with others over a shared passion for music.
HASS: Quorn Heritage Walk Excursion
Last Tuesday, we embarked on the Quorn Heritage Walk, guided by Miss Neu with Steph and Chloe. Our first stop was First Street, where we explored the town’s early settlement and unchanged stone buildings, giving us a glimpse into Quorn’s peaceful past.
Next, we visited the Quorn Railway Station, once a bustling hub during the railway boom, now a quieter, historical landmark. We then explored the new bush walk trails, a modern addition contrasting the town's heritage. The trails provide a chance to connect with Quorn’s natural beauty, with native plants, birds, and stunning landscapes.
The excursion was a fantastic opportunity to witness how Quorn balances its rich history with its sustainable future.
Thank you to Ms Reed and Victoria for letting Steph and Chloe join us! We’re so glad to have them with us!
