Principal’s Report
Community Support Following Vandalism Incident
We want to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude to our school community for their support following the recent vandalism incident. Your support and words of encouragement have reaffirmed our school family's strength and unity. We remain committed to fostering respect, responsibility, and care for our school spaces. Thank you to all the learners, caregivers and the broader community for standing with us!
Working Together for Success!
As term one moves into the final couple of weeks, we have been reflecting on the journey of learning, growth, and community engagement we have enjoyed this term. Our school thrives on a strong partnership between teachers, learners, and families; we can achieve great things together! On this theme, term one reports, complete with grades and learning goals, will be available from Wednesday, 9 April. These 'long' reports provide:
- Comments and detailed information on your child's progress.
- Performance outcomes based on national standards.
- Information on where to next in each subject area.
As always, we encourage you to take the time to read the report with your child and discuss their progress. Including individual goals has also created an opportunity to discuss their progress towards their goals. Please don't hesitate to raise any concerns or queries regarding the report directly with the class teacher or head of school. You can make contact through Daymap, email, or phoning reception.
Our Goals for Term Two
At Quorn Area School, we believe in setting clear and achievable goals to ensure every learner flourishes academically, socially, and emotionally. This term, our focus areas include:
✅ Encouraging a Love for Reading – We aim to foster a reading culture by engaging students in book challenges, storytelling sessions, and library visits.
✅ Building Resilience and Well-being – Through our well-being programs, we are helping students develop confidence, manage emotions, and build positive relationships.
✅ Strengthening Home-School Connections – Open communication between families and school staff ensures that we provide the best support for our students.
End of Term
Finally, as this is our last newsletter of term one, I wish our families a safe break and an enjoyable school holiday when it arrives on 11 April. We look forward to seeing you all on 28 April for the next chapter of our learning journey.

Primary Report
News from the Year 3/4 Class
Health
We have been learning about what it means to feel safe and unsafe this term. We have been discussing different ways our bodies react to feeling unsafe and ways we can detect possible unsafe situations. We have been learning how to identify potential risks and what ‘risk’ means. We have also learnt what constitutes an emergency and what we should do in an emergency, including calling ‘000’.
Maths
In Maths lessons, we have learned different ways to collect and represent data. We collect data for many reasons, and we can record the information in many ways. Most learners have used bar graphs to efficiently and quickly represent data. Some photos are showing some of our bar graphs.
We have also been investigating shape, area and perimeter. We will look at characteristics and the relationship between shape, area, and perimeter. We have a short video and some photos of our challenge, which was to try to design the longest perimeter on the geoboards and figure out how to measure it. In the video, you can see and hear the high level of engagement with the challenge.

MAPPEN
This term, the Year 3 / 4 class has been studying a unit called ‘Our Dynamic Community’. Learners have explored what makes a community dynamic and how communities can change over time. So far, they have learned about ‘Australian Community Change Makers’ and how they are recognised for their contributions (Australian of the Year Awards). Learners have explored creative ways to help people become more healthy and active members of their communities.
We have examined community health messages and thought about how they impact different people's choices. This unit culminated in a ‘Community Connections Course’, where groups of learners planned and ran an activity that promoted physical activity and connection in their classroom community.

This is all about teaching learners that being healthy, active, and engaged in our communities helps us change positively and influence others to make positive changes.
We had to practice our learner dispositions to fully engage with activities. There are some short videos of us working as a team and practising ‘Persevering Pete’ and the habit of mind ‘communicating with clarity and precision’.
There are photos of our class designing creative plates of healthy foods to encourage younger learners to eat healthily. The class thoroughly enjoyed the creative aspect of the activity but thought it didn’t persuade the intended audience to try new things. However, the class was impressed by the range of foods the younger learners ate without being encouraged.

Many thanks to Tarryn, Jacinda, Sarah, and Heidi, who helped prepare the fruit and vegetables and were on hand to help throughout the creating, eating, and tidying up stages! We appreciate your help, and once again, it shows how invaluable parent support is at school.
There are other photos of the class designing their ‘Community Connections Course’ using Canva on their devices.
Science
Our unit was called ‘Observable Properties of Solids and Liquids’ this term.
Our class learnt about the observable properties of solid and liquid matter. We participated in an ice cube melting race and observed the changes when solid chocolate melted into liquid chocolate. We observed the process of ice cream freezing and investigated the melting points of different types of chocolate. We then made our own beeswax wraps as a sustainable alternative to plastic cling wrap.

Along the way, we answered these questions
- How does adding or removing heat lead to a change of state?
- What are the observable properties of liquids and solids?
There are some photos of our class as we experimented with chocolate and made ice cream and photos of our beeswax wraps.
In other news...
Some of our class members have been busy collecting rubbish during breaks. When they collect a full bag, they take it to the canteen for a small incentive. Congratulations to all who have participated – you are helping to keep our yard looking clean and safe.

STEM Day Request
Just a reminder that if you have any recyclables for STEM day, bring them into school by the end of this week; thank you!

Children’s University
Children participating in the Children's University program earned 30 minutes in their passports by engaging in a fun and interactive "Learning to Code" session during their lunch break. This hands-on activity introduced them to basic coding concepts, allowing them to explore the world of technology while earning valuable time towards their personal learning achievements.

Premier’s Be Active Challenge – Get Moving!

Our school is excited to support the Premier’s Be Active Challenge, encouraging students to stay active and build healthy habits! This initiative promotes physical activity by challenging students to complete 60 minutes of movement daily for at least four days a week over 10 weeks.
To support this, we are incorporating active sessions into our school routine, but we also encourage students to participate outside school hours. Whether it’s walking the dog, riding a bike, playing sports, or dancing at home, every movement counts! Participating students will benefit from improved fitness, well-being, and recognition for their efforts.
Sign-up sheets are available from the front office and must be returned to Trish before the end of Term 2. Let’s get moving and make physical activity a fun part of every day!
MNSEC Athletics – A Day of Personal Bests!
On Tuesday, 19th March, 17 students from Quorn Area School proudly represented us at the MNSEC Athletics Carnival. While no records were broken on the day, the event was filled with personal achievements—from students tackling hurdles for the first time (and winning!) to others trying javelin and discovering it’s not as daunting as it seems.
A huge thank you goes out to the parents and caregivers who transported our athletes, as well as Tricia, Mark, and Miss Evans, for their help officiating the long jump pit. Your support made the day possible!
From this event, we are thrilled to announce that three of our athletes have been selected to compete at Mid North Athletics in Adelaide, with three more chosen as reserves—a fantastic achievement! We wish them the best of luck in Week 11 as they take on this next challenge.
Well done to all involved!
Regards,
Monique Griffiths
Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club has launched at Quorn Area School! All students are invited to come from 8:15–8:40 AM on Monday, Wednesday & Friday to enjoy a nutritious start to the day in a welcoming and friendly environment. This is a great opportunity to fuel up for learning, connect with friends, and positively start the morning. We look forward to seeing you there!
Harmony Day
On Friday, 21st March, we celebrated Harmony Day. This is a day to celebrate the diversity of different cultures and celebrate learning about them.
During the break, we had a Harmony Day Quiz where children learnt interesting facts about different countries and tasted food from some of them.
The key message from today is that everyone belongs, and the children had the opportunity to decorate a Harmony Day disc.
It was a fun way to learn about different cultures.
