Principal’s Report
The start of term two will see in a number of changes in relation to the classrooms that students will use during the course of their learning. The youngest members of our school will be relocating to classroom 5. We regard this move as essential in developing a continuity of learning across our primary years. This move will enable us to better meet the needs of all primary students as we seek to embed targeted Literacy & Numeracy Blocks to meet the diverse needs of our younger students. Term three will also see our Y11/12 students move into classroom 26 which has been refurbished to create a contemporary learning environment aimed at enhancing student engagement.
Unfortunately, we have experienced some difficulty in adding the BYOD portal to our website which we promised earlier in the term. ASI solutions have informed us that there is a supply issue with our chosen device and they are working to resolve this. They have advised us that the portal should be operational in week 2 of the holidays and devices will be delivered in either week one or two of next term. In the meantime we will continue to add student devices to our network upon the presentation of a device that meets the requirements of our current policy. Any caregiver seeking support in relation to the selection of a suitable device can contact me directly at the school.
Reports will be arriving home shortly and they will give detailed information on your child’s progress both in relation to their peers and their personal goals. If you have any concerns about the report please do not hesitate to contact the teacher directly to discuss the issue.
Finally I would like to wish all students and their caregivers an enjoyable vacation. I will look forward to your safe return in term three for another term of learning.

Counsellor Report
Dance Workshop
On Sunday 25th June five secondary students participated in an intensive four hour dance workshop, held by Beth Pontifex, senior teacher/instructor at TK Studios in Adelaide. The girls learnt two routines that they have been practicing during their lunchtimes, Confident by Demi Lovato in a jazz/funk style and Supermarket Flowers by Ed Sheeran which is a lyrical dance that has been created by merging ballet, jazz and contemporary dance techniques together in one routine. The girls are looking forward to representing the school at the MNSEC showcase next term.
MNSEC Formal
Amidst the cool temperatures on Friday 30th July, the Year 11 & 12 students dressed up for annual MNSEC Formal. The formal this year was hosted by Booleroo and students spent the night mingling with students from other MNSEC schools and dancing the night away. Check out the gallery for photos of the students in their elegant dresses and suave suits.
Primary Social
On Friday 23rd June, Chloe, Kosmo and Kara held a ‘Queen of Hearts’ social for the primary students, in line with their Personal Learning Plan assignment. The student’s had a great time and although some had never seen the original ‘Alice in Wonderland’ movie, their effort to dress up according the theme was amazing. Chloe and Kosmo, with the help of a few other student’s, hosted the night extremely well, playing games and running competitions throughout the night.
The money that was raised will be given to a local resident in the area, who has a direct link with a rural Cambodian school. The rural schools program gives students who are less fortunate, the opportunity for a better education and brighter life.

Governor Visit
His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le made a special visit to the school on the morning of Wednesday 28th June. The Governor General was taken for a tour of the school by our 2017 School Prefects, Shay Geldard and Julian McCarthy. While touring the classrooms, students from each year level had questions for his Excellency, those ranging from how much power do you have and what is? To, how do you value education and what significant changes have you made in your role as governor so far? Thank you to all those students who spoke on behalf of their class and to Shay and Julian for doing an amazing job of speaking on behalf of the school.

Sports Report
SSSSA Knockout volleyball is on Thursday 10th August (Week 3 of Term 3). Trials will be held during Week 1 and the team selected to travel to MARS sporting stadium in Adelaide. We will keep the number of students to a minimum to assist in the transport of students (7 male and 7 female).
MNSEC 5-a-side Soccer for the Year 8/9 students is Thursday of Week 2. Once again representation at these carnivals is a privilege for the students and they must be holding up the schools behavioural expectations. A note about this will go out in Week 1 of next term.
Cameron Finlay represented QAS in the combined MNSEC football side in Port Pirie recently. Unfortunately the boys weren’t successful so do not progress further in this competition.
It has been an incredibly busy first half of 2017 with our school going through numerous changes. I would like to thank the staff, students and parents for their ongoing support and understanding. I wish everyone a happy and safe holidays and I will see you back on Monday 24th July.
Tech Studies
The Year 7/8 class have been busy completing skills tasks before the end of semester. Kolt built a dog cage to place in a ute tray, Dayne completed his coffee table design, Zion finished his foot stool and Bailey completed his BBQ Plate. Julian has been busy completing his thread turning on the metal lathe as part of his Year 12 major project.
