Principal’s Report
Over the past week the teaching staff has been engaged in two different professional learning days aimed at improving learning outcomes for all of our students. The first of these days was focused upon learning design and the Australian Curriculum. The aim was to develop a more robust and well-documented curriculum that provides the right balance between challenge and enrichment. Planning the curriculum across the full R-12 range is challenging in itself, but also richly rewarding as our teachers discovered. Whilst we are pleased with our initial progress we are aware of the challenges ahead as we seek to develop an improvement-focused culture that supports a coherent whole-school approach to learning and teaching. Our second professional learning day was focused on perhaps the most significant development in education in our lifetime. Visible Learning is based upon education research from around the globe and it essentially identifies the ‘what works’. We have committed to adopting the principles of Visible Learning and over the coming months we will be working on a shared language for learning across our school. Our initial goal is to support teachers to see learning through the eyes of students and help them become their own teachers.

Dance Lessons with Miss Beth
During Week 10 of last term, we were lucky enough to have Miss Beth back who is a choreographer from Adelaide. She worked with the MNSEC Troupe earlier in the year and came back to give other students the opportunity to learn some new dance techniques. Students participated in workshops that exposed students to alternate genres of dance and consequently new techniques. The students had a great time dancing to Commercial Jazz/Funk, Hip Hop and Musical Theatre.

Footy Colours Day
Each year hundreds of thousands of Australians stand shoulder to shoulder to unite in the fight against cancer by wearing their team's colours with pride throughout September at their school, workplace or club.
QAS students wore their true colours on Thursday 28th September to try and make a difference in the lives of children and young people living with cancer. We raised $164.00 for the Fight Cancer Foundation.
