Principal’s Report
Teach me and I’ll forget,
show me and I may remember, involve me and I will
understand. |
Earlier this term I referred to our commitment to the ‘Visible Learning’. Since our initial training we have been working collaboratively to plan the first stage in our journey to make learning visible in all teaching spaces across our school. We have agreed that the starting point is to ensure that Learning Design (teacher planning and delivery) becomes a learning reality where students are encouraged to be more involved with their learning, understand what they are learning and the purpose of their learning. Quorn Area School has adopted the established ‘characters’ of WALT, WILF and TIB, as well as the promising newcomer WAGOLL, to assist them with this quest. These ‘characters’ will become an established part of our school culture in the coming months and more information regarding their meaning and how you can use them to support your child’s learning can be found on our website under the Visible Learning banner. From January 2018 the four ‘characters’ will be displayed to the right of the primary display in the classroom to encourage students to actively engage with learning.
I am pleased to inform our community that following our On-Track Evaluation in September Quorn Area School is no longer a ‘one year return’ school and it has returned to the standard four year cycle. The review found that the school has made significant progress in implementing the recommendations from the original External School Review in 2016. The new report has been uploaded onto our website and I would like to thank all those who contributed to the progress made by the school in relation to improving learning outcomes for students.

SAPSASA Tennis/Cricket
Joel Finlay and Mackenzie Chapman are currently representing the school and district at SAPSASA Tennis in Adelaide this week. Lachie and Isaac Finlay are doing the same for the SAPSASA Cricket team. We hope the students have a great week and come home with lots of stories for us. A special mention must go to Jenny Crisp who is coordinating the Northern SAPSASA Tennis team for the 20th consecutive year. Congratulations Jenny, your dedication over the years has been outstanding.
