Principal’s Report
Welcome back to all of our learners as we look forward to a new year of learning. We have already welcomed over twenty new learners to our school and we are looking forward to sharing the learning journey with both them and their caregivers. Over recent months we have continued to explore new ways to improve both learning and engagement at the school and we are excited by the recent changes to our learning spaces. These changes include:
- The refurbishment of the primary building exterior and the installation of large LED Interactive screens in all primary teaching spaces.
- The Junior Primary playground sandpit is now complete and planting will commence in the autumn.
- Due to increased numbers we have added a second Foundation class to offer our youngest learners focused support aimed at building firm foundations for future success in learning.
- Whilst the work is still in the planning stage we are delighted to confirm that the removal of six buildings has been funded by the Department for Education and the tendering process has begun.
We have two new teachers who have joined us this week and we are confident that will make a significant contribution to improved learning outcomes for our young people. They are:
Kate Neu
Tryphone John Sambi
Finally, I am delighted to share our 2018 SACE results with our community. The impressive figures include:
100% completion rate
27.3% of learners gained an ATAR over 90%
100% of learners who applied to university have secured places
We congratulate all of our 2018 graduates on their achievements and wish them well on the next stage of their journey.

Quorn Area School’s Graduating Class of 2018
Congratulations to our Year 12 graduates of 2018 on their fantastic results. From our class of 11 students, 5 of our students have been offered 1st preference University positions in the following degrees at various institutions.
Medicine, Abraham Tuckwell
Teaching, |
Animal Science, |
Forensic Science |
Master of Psychology |
We also have one student taking up an Apprenticeship in Hair Dressing at LKM Hair Designers in Quorn. This is a particularly great result for Aleesha as when we began career discussions back in Year 8 this was something that she always thought she would like to do. It is great to see her end up in that area.
This is an outstanding achievement for our students and shows that the hard work does pay off. We were very fortunate to have such a dedicated bunch of learners throughout 2018. The remainder of our students are currently in work preparing for their next step – but I am sure that no matter the path that they choose to take they will be very successful.
If you would like to talk about your child’s future direction please contact Matt at the school on matt.griffiths310@schools.sa.edu.au

Primary Report
Primary Coordinator
A very warm welcome to the 2019 school year and a special welcome to our new students and their families who have started in the primary block and across the school. It is set to be another busy year of learning and improvement, with some exciting changes along the way.
This year we also welcome Kate Neu to the R-6 team. Miss Neu is originally from Mount Gambier and has made the move to Quorn to work alongside Miss Miller in the Foundation years. She is a great asset to the school and I look forward to see what she has in store for Junior Primary this year.
For those who may not know me, I am Monique Carcuro and I am the Primary Coordinator (Reception – Six). My role this year is to support the Primary cohort in their teaching and learning. To continue on from last year, an element of my job is called Impact Coach. This role gives me the opportunity to create and oversee effective assessments for teaching and learning in the primary years. It is also about effective feedback to the students and teachers to ensure, we as professionals, are making the greatest impact they can. This process generates data and it’s my role to gather, collate and examine the evidence, to ensure what is happening in the classroom is making a positive difference.

We would love your help – Become a Volunteer
Volunteers play a crucial role in supporting the engagement, achievement and wellbeing of all children and students.
DECD volunteers can participate in a wide range of programs and services including coaching sporting teams, helping children learn to read, attending working bees, mentoring students and through membership on governing councils, management groups and parent groups.
If you feel you have different skills, expertise and knowledge to offer, please get in contact with the school. It’s never too late to start. No matter who you are or where you’re from, it’s all about wanting to help out. It is in this spirit that the department actively encourages Aboriginal people and people from multicultural and diverse backgrounds to get involved also.
Learning Potential App -
Packed with tips and ideas for you to get involved in your child’s learning, the Learning Potential App helps you to make the most of the time you spend with your child.
Personalise the App for your family’s needs. Type in your child’s or children’s name and age and receive articles and videos that are relevant to their age group.
This free App has been developed by the Department of Education and Training in consultation with Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority.
