Principal’s Report
In the coming weeks Year Twelve learners will be completing their Stage Two SACE examinations as they close the chapter on their high school careers. I want to thank the staff who supported them during their journey from reception through to year twelve, as every one of them has contributed to the successes of these fine young people. While learners commence study leave on the 1 November, teachers will still be available to support them through to the end of the examination period.
This week learners from across the school will be engaging with the 2019 Week of Inspirational Maths. They will be working collaboratively to solve a variety of visual mathematical puzzles aimed at transforming the beliefs they hold about Maths. The open-ended activities are designed to both inspire and challenge thinking as there is no single right answer. This style of questioning supports the changes we are making to our Maths curriculum and supports the development of a growth mindset. Our understanding of Mathematics has changed significantly over the last decade, and further information regarding ways to help your child develop confidence in this area is available at:

The 2020 Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is currently being updated and should be operational by next week. New models have been added, and caregivers requiring further information can contact the school for further details. While the aim is for all high school learners have access to a BYOD laptop, we are also keen to support the expansion of the program into our upper primary. If you would like to discuss the benefits of a laptop for your child in Y5/6, please feel free to contact me directly at the school.

Foundation Classes
In Media Arts we have been looking at photography. We have learnt how to keep the subject in the frame and cut out unimportant things as well as ensuring that the photo is in focus. Learners have explored point of view with high, low and eye level photos. They have also explored close up, mid view and far away photos. Here are some of the photos taken by the learners.

Throughout the year, Foundation Learners have been exploring inquiry skills and the QAS Learner Dispositions during Investigation Time. Investigation Time consist of a number of different stations covering topics such as Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Health and the Arts. Every week we have 2 Focus Children, a Reporter and a Photographer who share their learning and observations during the reflection time at the end. Here are some photos of our recent investigations.

Spanish Cooking Adventures
During Spanish last term, we investigated and explored traditional Spanish foods and festivals. In Week 9, we went down to the Home Ec room to prepare and cook some traditional Spanish snacks. Each group had to plan, prepare and help cook one of the traditional snacks. We cooked Ham and Cheese Empanadas, Spanish potatoes and Churros with a chocolate dipping sauce. We really liked each of the foods, however, we absolutely loved the chocolate covered churros! Here are some pictures from the day.

Bookflix wall
As part of our literacy program, we have designed a Bookflix wall which is located outside of the Foundation rooms. The purpose of our Bookflix wall is to encourage students in their love of reading and to review books that we read. These books are available for students to read during relaxation and lesson times and will be changed monthly. The Foundation students have really enjoyed reading and reviewing these books using a 5-star rating system during literacy. They base their ratings on what they liked/disliked and how the book made them feel. This also ties into our numeracy program of collecting and interpreting data. Please feel free to come and have a look at our Bookflix wall and see what ratings we have given books so far.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR IS HERE AGAIN!
Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination! It helps children discover who they are…
Our Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books, which our learners want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Every year, friends and families come together to promote reading books and lifelong learning at our Book Fair.
Your child would have received the following:
- Book Fair Brochure – this is to show the selection of books available for purchase.
- Student Wish List – this is for learners to list down the books they are interested in.
