Principal’s Report
As the 2022 school year draws to a close, I would like to thank the school community for their continued support and patience during a year of COVID-19 and staffing shortages. Despite the external challenges we faced this year, we still had much to celebrate in terms of impressive NAPLAN and SACE results. In addition, we had an External School Review that highlighted our achievements over the past three years and provided input on where to next and how to get there.
The Presentation Evening on the 8 December was exceptionally well supported, and despite the absence of many awards due to restrictions throughout the year, there was still much to celebrate. Awarding prizes gets more complex every year as teachers review the achievements and growth of learners who own their learning and aspire to even greater things every year.
As this is our last newsletter of the year, I would like to thank the staff who will begin a new chapter in 2023 for their service to the school. Vicki Fuller is retiring after an incredible twenty years of service at the school. We wish her and her family the best on the next stage of the journey. Matthew Buckingham and Faruk Pathan have secured permanent positions close to their current and future homes in Adelaide. We thank them for their service and contribution to our improvement journey since 2018. We also farewell Amber Tomney, Karen-Ann Buckingham, and Jess Trott, who will also move on to new challenges in 2023. Watching people grow and develop is one of the highlights of being a teacher. The experiences of our 2022 staff leavers at Quorn Area School will leave them well-equipped to thrive in their chosen pathways. I would also like to acknowledge the remaining staff's professionalism and commitment in 2022. Your energy and drive kept the doors open and the learning flowing. Thank you to all of our staff for your tremendous commitment on behalf of our learners. I look forward to working collaboratively with those of you returning in 2023.
Work will continue on upgrades to our facilities during the upcoming vacation. I ask that all site visitors adhere to the cordons and safety notices.
Finally, I would like to wish all of our learners and their families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Last Thursday evening, QAS hosted the annual End of Year Presentation. We would like to thank the parents and families who came along and supported the evening, with there certainly being lots to celebrate. Congratulations to all the award winners for 2022, and well done to all our learners who have achieved academic growth and applied persistence throughout the year. Secondary Report
I really can’t believe that this is the end of the year already! There has been a lot to celebrate in the Secondary School this year. I would like to thank the Prefects for their hard work and initiatives this year. Amaru Omonte Kramer, Emily Reed and Reece Freer stepped up to the challenge and were successful in their endeavours. A special thanks to Amaru and Emily for their assistance last Thursday evening at the End of Year Presentation.
A highlight this year has been the Growing Careers Project and working alongside The Smith Family. We are very lucky to have been able to continue to offer career investigation opportunities in the secondary school and are very much looking forward to securing further workplace visits throughout 2023. I have been busy meeting with Kate Dickenson from The Smith Family and locking in exciting career-building opportunities for next year.
It is pleasing that two of our Stage One learners have locked in their Vocational Education Training for 2023 in the Automotive and Agriculture sector. They will be completing TAFE courses and continuing to work towards completing their SACE. Transition on Tuesday – Thursday over the past three weeks has allowed our SACE learners to get a head start on their coursework for 2023. Our Year 7 transition has also been successful during weeks 8 and 9, allowing our newest secondary learners the opportunity to partake in some secondary subjects.
I would like to take the opportunity to farewell Mr Pathan, who is moving to Adelaide in 2023. On behalf of the secondary cohort, we wish Mr Pathan and his family all the very best for the future. We thank him for his valuable contributions to the secondary school over the past four years.
Wishing you all a happy and safe break over the summer; enjoy the time with your families. I look forward to another successful year in 2023 filled with ample learning and extra curricula opportunities.

Primary Report
Year 1/2 Class
This term, we have been busy putting together our ‘Journey Through the Seasons’ dance which went with our theme of Time this term. Please enjoy the video of the dances that we have put together.
Transition to QAS
This term, we welcomed our newest learners to QAS through our successful Firm Foundations program. They participated in Read, Write Inc and learnt the sounds m a and s. We learnt about numbers using our Numcion shapes in different ways, including making a number crown and taking on challenges such as ordering the shapes correctly. We also read the Three Little Pigs story and built our own sturdy structures for STEM.
Please join me in welcoming Curtley, Tate, Walker, Ava, Tylerah, Ziva, Eleanor, Alfie and their families to QAS!

I wish you and your families a happy and safe holiday. See you all in 2023 for another year of amazing learning and growth!

News from Miss Tomney’s Class
What a year! It has been great to see so much learning and growth from all learners, not only in our Year 3/4 class but the whole school
This term in Literacy, we looked at what makes a good text and how writers can create a new episode for a story. All learners were required to create a new episode of what would happen when two robots went out on an adventure in the real world. They all came up with an engaging and interesting story, which was great. Learners also used a range of vocabulary to demonstrate their skills.

Also, we have recently learned how to create dialogue; as you can see, their dialogues are fantastic! We initially wrote dialogue as a play script, but then we up-levelled our understanding and went to the next level by writing it similar to a novel. Learners all did so well, and their understanding and dialogue ability has improved significantly.

In Numeracy, we have looked at chance and measurement. Recently, learners have discovered many ways to measure items, not just in length but using mass and volume. They have been experimenting with how to measure standard and non-standard objects accurately. Once again, their understanding has grown.
This term in 1/2/3 PE, we have played various games to help us build fundamental movement skills and teamwork. Seeing all learners join in and participate in the learning environment has been great. Learners could quickly work in their teams to create letters, shapes and groups.

For our Math lessons, we have reviewed mathematical topics, including shape, money, number and place value, to help develop and strengthen their understanding. For the following activity, learners had to use their knowledge of shape and fractions to create squares in squares. They also had to count the number of triangles and squares they could see within their picture.

I want to say thank you to Quorn Area School for all of your support for the last three years. Quorn Area School will always have a special place in my heart, and I wish you all the best for 2023.
Have a lovely Christmas and holiday
Miss Tomney

SAPSASA District Cricket
Congratulations to Noah Kruger, Sam Finlay, and Lucas Bury, who were selected to represent the Northern District in the SAPSASA Cricket competition, which was held in Adelaide earlier this term. The Northern Team was competing in the division 4 group, and there were 6 divisions in total. Our team played 5 games over the three-day period. They were victorious in the grand final and defeated Southern Fleurieu quite convincingly. We bowled them out for 68 runs, and in return, we made 153, taking out the division four championship. All three boys were very successful with making various runs and taking wickets throughout the week. Special thanks to Simon Robinson from Stirling North Primary School, who was the coach, and to the parents who transported, supervised, and assisted the team throughout the week. A huge congratulations to the Northern team on their amazing cricket results.
SAPSASA Super 8’s Cricket
On Friday, the 2nd of December, we had 4 boys represent the school in the Super 8’s Cricket Competition held at Stirling North Primary School. Noah Kruger, Sam Finlay, Lucas Bury, and Kallan Holtham joined together with Hawker Area School to form a team. The Quorn/Hawker duo dominated the competition throughout the day and were undefeated, heading to the grand final match against Port Augusta West Primary School. In the final match, Quorn/Hawker bowled PAWPS out for 17 runs, and in return, we made 138 runs and secured the grand final victory. Special thanks to Amanda Hilder, who was the supervising teacher on the day. Thanks to Sarah Kruger and Tanya Finlay for transporting our boys and assisting with various jobs throughout the day. Congratulations to the Quorn/Hawker boys, who were very successful and represented our schools with brilliant teamwork and manners on the day.
